| Molen d'Arke (Genomineerd Groene Innovatieprijs) + | Genomineerd voor de Groene Innovatieprijs 2017. Samenwerkingsverband tussen het akkerbouwbedrijf van de heer van Nieuwenhuijzen, Molen d'Arke en Bakkerij Vader uit Oostkapelle. Omdat de vrijwilligers op Molen d'Arke zich actief inzetten voor duurzame producten in samenwerking met anderen uit de nabije omgeving, zoals voor het Oostkapels Molensteenbrood. De tarwe van boerderij Rijnsburg is van zo'n goede meelkwaliteit (er wordt gewerkt vanuit de kringloopgedachte bij de bemesting en gewasbescherming) dat er geen toevoegingen (broodverbeteraars) nodig zijn om een smakelijk en stevig brood te produceren. Op enkele honderden meters afstand wordt deze tarwe gemalen met behulp van windkracht op natuursteen (basaltlavasteen) en bakt Bakkerij Vader (ook op enkele honderden meters van de molen gelegen) er het Oostkapels Molensteenbrood van. Er zijn plannen voor nieuwe produkten die ook in de gezamenlijkheid tot stand komen. Tevens is er contact gezocht met andere stichtingen, die bij dit proces een rol willen en kunnen spelen. Er zijn ook plannen voor het verduurzamen van de molen: van historisch erfgoed naar een combinatie met modern duurzaam gebruik. Duurzaam omdat er gewerkt wordt vanuit een korte ketenlijn, waardoor de CO-2 footprint erg laag is; samenwerking binnen Oostkapelle en met instanties/ personen in de nabije omgeving; windkracht; gezonde voeding; vernieuwde duurzame functie voor de molen; vernieuwende visie. + |

| Movement and Sports + | Physical activity is crucial for the wellbeing of elderly people and the partners have therefore decided to develop pilot initiatives jointly around the theme ‘movement and sports’. Each region will focus on a different aspect of the movement theme to provide complementary solutions and to test a high number of approaches: Norfolk will for example focus on people in sheltered housing, Oostende on an area in the city where mobility rates are the lowest, Zeeland on the particular divide between beach area and village centre. Some of the pilots like Oostende’s ‘Beweeg aan zee’ come already with concrete proposals that will be tested in the social innovation process, other pilots start with the social innovation from scratch, based on a concrete problem (e.g. Cadzand). All these different settings are not unique to the chosen locations but have been selected because they are emblematic for many other places across the 2 Seas area. Partners will work with the same indicators (e.g. physical fitness of participants) and on the basis of agreed joint baseline values (e.g. percentage of elderly in the communities making use of sports facilities) from work package 3. If a particular pilot requires specific investments, they will be financed outside of the project. Norfolk will lead this work package as they have already collected numerous experiences from previous initiatives and are particularly active and connected in the movement and sports area. + |
| Mts. Treur (Genomineerd Groene Innovatieprijs) + | Genomineerd voor de Groene Innovatieprijs 2017 Harmen Treur heeft een geheel eigen kijk op een duurzame melkproductie. Hij past zijn grondgebruik aan naar de omstandigheden. De bedrijfsvoering is biologisch en erop gericht om de bodemvruchtbaarheid optimaal te benutten zodat hij geen kunstmest hoeft te gebruiken. Hij kan het ook goed uitleggen wat hij doet. Zijn enthousiasme en kennis werkt aanstekelijk en ik zie rondom meerdere boeren zijn voorbeeld overnemen. Niet dat ze gelijk allemaal biologisch worden, maar in elk geval na gaan denken over bodemvruchtbaarheid en teelt van alternatieve gewassen. Harmen heeft in Nieuw-Zeeland stage gelopen en heeft daar veel kennis opgedaan die hij hier toepast op het thuisfront. + |
| Multifunctione Accommodatie Biggekerke + | In Biggekerke wordt een MFA gebouwd in plaats van de school en het dorpshuis. De accommodatie zal energieneutraal (nul op de meter) en ciruculair worden gebouwd. Het gebouw wordt all-electric uitgevoerd, er wordt dus geen gas gebruikt. Het gebouw wordt voorzien van een warmtepomp en zonnepanelen. Circulariteit zit hem in de functie en gebruik van het gebouw, maar ook zal er een gebouwenpaspoort worden opgesteld van het gebouw. Het gebouwenpaspoort heeft als doel dat bij een eventuele sloop er precies duidelijk is welke materialen er zijn gebruikt, waar ze vandaan komen, waar ze zitten in het gebouw. Met als doel dat ze later hergebruikt kunnen worden. + |

| NEREUS Scenario Studies + | The NEREUS project is an Interreg 2 Seas project working with partners from the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium and France aiming to recover valuable resources such as water, energy and nutrients from urban wastewater. The overall project lasts for 4 years, during which contributing research questions need to be answered. The water technology research group is in need of a student who can work on one of these contributing questions; the investigation of several scenario studies. A scenario in this case is considered to be a certain "train" or set-up of various water treatment technologies in sequence. The student will, using the help of a model, be able to advise on the effectiveness of each scenario in the recovering of the desired resources. | Natural capital and harbor developments + | The Western Scheldt is one of the busiest shipping lines in Europe and provides access to ports in Antwerp, Genth, Terneuzen en Vlissingen. The port activities continue to grow. As a consequence, spatial claims and dredging activities cause pressure on the natural capital of the estuary and require compensation. In port Vlissingen-east, for instance, an extension of quays will take place and will be combined with a nature development in the Schorerpolder next to the port. In Living lab Schorerpolder stakeholders will develop alternatives in area layout and share ideas about the role of ecosystem services. + |
| Near-shore seaweed culture + | This research will focus on the determination of suitable locations for these seaweed farms in the region of Zeeland. The approach is 2-sided. On one hand the study will use available maps and GIS as a tool. On the other hand, important input about suitable locations comes from stakeholder consultation sessions. | Ninove (BE) + | Flood risks in Flanders are increasing, due to continuing land sealing and climate change. Addressing these risks will not be possible with protective measures only (e.g. embankments, flood retention zones, etc.) but will necessitate a wide set of measures. Some of these measures will require action to be taken by citizens. Considering the fact that Flemish flood risk management has limited experience with citizen engagement, it can be expected that the implementation of individual and community-based measures will not be self-evident and might even meet resistance. Within FRAMES, the Province of East-Flanders and Ghent University will investigate the possibilities of individual and community-based flood risk action and how it can be encouraged. In the flood-prone areas of Ninove and Denderleeuw, participatory planning processes will unite inhabitants to explore the possibilities of this type of measures, their potential co-benefits and how citizens’ capacities can be strengthened to implement them. + |
